Dr. Elana Stein Hain is the Director of Faculty and a Senior Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, where she serves as lead faculty, directs the activities of the Kogod Research Center for Contemporary Jewish Thought and consults on the content of lay and professional leadership programs. She formerly worked as clergy at Lincoln Square Synagogue and the Jewish Center, and she holds a PhD in Religion from Columbia University. She created Talmud from the Balcony, a periodic online seminar exposing the big ideas, questions, and issues motivating rabbinic discussions, and co-hosts For Heaven's Sake, a bi-weekly podcast exploring contemporary issues related to Israel and the Jewish world. She is currently working on her upcoming book, entitled Circumventing the Law: Rabbinic Perspectives on Legal Loopholes and Fictions. She lives with her family on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
